When Communities come Together, Amazing things Happen
Early in 2015, community meetings were held to discuss the gaps and obstacles to services in Southern Washington County and whether a Center might enhance community. A steering committee developed which continues gathering information from our community, from others engaged in similar work, as well as demographic trends for our area. Several themes arose out of those meetings.
Cambridge has need for centralized information sharing along with local guides to help people find appropriate social service programs.
Our youth need more opportunities safely to work, learn, and play together.
Our senior community needs support to age in place.
We need access to doctors and services because there is no public transportation.
Desmond Tutu's children's book, "God Dreams" invites people to live together sharing
giving and forgiving!
A gathering place that promotes inter-generational, personal, social, economic,
and community well-being in the greater Cambridge area.
Collaboration – So many wonderful programs and opportunities already exist in the Cambridge area, our goal is to cooperate, not compete. We want to locate the gaps and obstacles and address the issues. CUCC will reach out to the diverse groups and cultures within our community and learn from those beyond our community. Intergenerational - When the generations gather, communities remember their identity; they look toward their future together; and they knit together a resislent community of care. We value opportunities for building relationships across the generations. We look for input from all generations as we plan the programming and direction of the Center Sustainability – CUCC operates with the long view in mind. We are laying a careful yet flexible foundation; attentively listening to the community; being mentored by the Economic Opportunity Council and other organizations engaged in community building; prioritizing fiscal accountability and teamwork. In doing so CUCC is laying the groundwork for an ongoing vitality. Generosity – CUCC depends on generous gifts of time and talent as well as the financial gifts of the community. In turn, we value generosity of spirit and skill. Mutual Respect – CUCC is committed to the inherent value of every person. Everyone has resources to share and needs to be met. Working together, walking alongside each other, we learn from one another.
